Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students of Jacob Wiens Elementary,
Welcome! I am Mrs. Denise Sunderland and I am proud to be a Jaguar and the principal at Jacob Wiens Elementary. The staff and community of JWE are a close-knit family and very supportive. You can expect to "Hear Us R.O.A.R." this year! The word ROAR stands for Responsible, Outstanding, Achieving, and Respectful. We celebrate these character traits and feel they are necessary for student success.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty-eight years. I have worked with students ranging in age from 1st through 8th grade. I have been an elementary and junior high teacher, an Instructional Coach, an Assistant Principal, and a Principal. This will be my 11th year in the role of principal and my second year at Jacob Wiens Elementary. I look forward to working with you, as a partner in education, to ensure your child's success.
Professionally, I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I hold the belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.
