The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project

Hemet Unified’s SAFE After School Program has partnered with The American Red Cross to present The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project, sponsored by Disney. This project teaches students the importance of fire safety, personal preparedness, and teaches them how to create an emergency supply kit.

A representative from The American Red Cross presented important information to students to keep them safe during natural disasters. Students were taught about earthquakes and aftershocks, coping skills to help during an emergency, to crawl on the floor if there is smoke, to feel if a door is hot before opening it, and to discuss an evacuation plan with their family. Throughout the presentation, students went through various drills for natural disasters and asked insightful questions to better understand the information. At the end of the presentation, students were given a pillowcase to carry their emergency kit. The pillowcase had a list of things students should pack like a change of clothes, water, flashlight, toothbrush, etc.

Thank you to The American Red Cross and SAFE After School Program for providing such valuable information to our students.
