Jacob Wiens' 20+ Year Time Capsule

On Thursday, January 26, HUSD hosted a 20+ Year Time Capsule event at Jacob Wiens Elementary. Students, staff, and members of the community joined together to open a time capsule buried on school grounds over 20 years ago. The entire event was live-streamed on our Facebook page and the surprise contents included class photos, district documents, student drawings, notes from students, and a small bag of M&M’s.

One of the notes read, “Dear People From the Future, we are a 5th grade class with 30 kids. There are four of us writing this letter in 2002... If you found this letter, you are the future people who will know how we lived.” It continued, “Skateboards are the fad this year.” The note then went on to state that there would be a picture of a skateboard in the capsule so that we–the people of the future–would know what they look like.

The event turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to remember days passed and consider the wonderful future that we are creating at HUSD.
